Breaking the Code @ People's Theatre, Newcastle upon Tyne
Feb 13 @ 7:30 pm – Feb 17 @ 9:45 pm
Breaking the Code @ People's Theatre, Newcastle upon Tyne | England | United Kingdom

At the height of the Second World War, brilliant young mathematician Alan Turing was a key figure in breaking the Enigma code used by the Nazis. In the aftermath of victory, Turing returned to academic life but his dreams were left unfulfilled as his private sexual life fell afoul of social attitudes in 1950s Britain.

Whitemore’s gripping drama is a tender portrait of a modern tragedy.

Pride in the North (LGBT History Month Lecture) @ Curtis Auditorium, Herschel Building, Newcastle University
Feb 20 @ 5:30 pm – 6:45 pm

Mark Nichols from Northern Pride will deliver a public lecture at Newcastle University on the 20th of February as part of LGBT History Month. The first Pride march in Britain was in London in 1972; in 1995 Pride on Tyne was established, initially with a low-key university-based celebration. In 2007 Northern Pride replaced it and brought the parade to the city to make it a truly public celebration. This lecture recounts its history, and the obstacles and challenges it faced.

The lecture is free to attend, with seats allocated on a first come first serve basis.
