Almost everyone will have heard about the range of ways in which drugs – or pharmaceuticals – are and can be used for recreational purposes. Indeed, the media attention Viagra gained when it launched clearly showed that there was a want – and need – for pharmaceutical interventions in sex. Likewise, many people will also be aware that synthetic drugs are often used to enhance sexual experiences.

But what about hormones? How do hormones effect and impact our sexuality – and our sex lives? And do people use hormones to increase (or decrease) their sex drives? What side-effects can taking hormones have and how should they be used?
