As an aspiring DJ myself, it is hard to come across someone on the gay scene who has not heard of the name Tony De Vit. He is the person responsible for revolutionising the sound of dance music in the 1990′s and whose residency at the famous club Trade pushed his then unique sound into the mainstream. Fame really hit Tony around 1995 when his track ‘Burning Up’ went into the UK charts at number 35 it was then that Radio 1 caught onto his success and Tony claimed his first essential mix on the show. Whilst maintaining his status as a DJ he produced a catalogue of his own track and remixes, he managed to inject raw energy into his productions, and his consistence of quality is rivalled by few in the genre of dance. Many of Tony’s tracks are regulars in record boxes around clubland even now, 8 years after his death from HIV related illness. Tony stacked up a string of awards and nominations for his DJing and production ability.

Personally I never knew Tony, I only know him through his music and through friends that knew him, but for someone to have made such an impact on my and many others musical tastes, is an incredible achievement.
