LGBT History Month had a big profile at Downing Street last night when the PM David Cameron hosted an LGBT celebration before the onset of this year’s London Pride. Everyone was delighted with the latest LGBT History Month 2012 badges, which were launched at the event and will go on general sale next week at the TUC LGBT Conference from June 30th. The Football Premier League signed the LGBT Equality Sports Charter at the event too.

Speaking to a crowded chamber upstairs in Number 10, the Prime Minister clear in his desire to support lgbt issues; tackle homophobia and trans phobia in sport and in schools in the UK, as well as working to fight it in Africa.

Sue Sanders, co-chair of LGBT History Month and Schools OUT had a brief word with him and he was pleased to support our work. He was particularly pleased to hear about the impending launch of the Schools OUT Classroom. Home Secreatry Teresa May insisted that they would not rescind the Equality Act – after fears brought about by the Government’s Red Tape watch site.

Billy Jean King was thrilled to get the new LGBT History Month badge and wore it for the evening; as did so many of the guests. Rugby was well represented and they spoke of exciting plans in the pipeline, which bodes well for next year and the pre launch at the Oval on the 21st of November.
