Wycombe Wanderers has become the first professional club in England to sign a Government Charter committing themselves to tackling homophobia and transphobia in football.

Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted the club after Wanderers signed up to the Government Charter for Action, which commits them to challenging discrimination and working to rid sport of homophobic and transphobic abuse.

Blues’ PFA representative Matt Bloomfield officially signed the Charter on the Adams Park pitch before Tuesday night’s game against Charlton Athletic.

He said: “We’re delighted to sign the Government Charter for Action because it’s important to tackle all forms of discrimination in the game that we all love. Homophobia and transphobia have no place in society and everybody should be able to enjoy sport, regardless of who they are and where they’ve come from.”

The Charter for Action on Inclusion of LGB and T people in sport was launched in March this year by Equalities Minister Lynne Featherstone  during a rugby league match in Sheffield celebrating LGBT History Month.
