Nathan Evans takes a comic and poetic look at a pair of botched departures from forty-year unions: the UK’s exit from Europe, bien sûr, and Nathan’s British-born, Brittany-residing, Brexit-supporting father’s departure from the state of matrimony. A brand new solo show marrying the personal and political, spoken word and storytelling, music and film.

‘witty, engaging and inquisitive’ Exeunt

In 2002, having worked decades in a job he hated to raise three then twenty-something sons, Nathan’s Dad took redundancy, sold his semi-detached in Medway and bought a farmhouse in Brittany. The only French he knew was ‘oui’. Nathan’s Mum took the passenger seat, reluctantly.

In 2016, the UK voted ‘non’ to the EU, dividing the nation (and family dinner tables) almost down the middle. In 2018, as Viola! begins, those separation negotiations are due to end and this new work-in-progress marrying personal and political, spoken word and storytelling, music and film, will reflect upon the cultural and generational divisions we are left with upon leaving.
